From Gemsweb Digital to Tangison Studio: Our Evolution
How a Windhoek-based digital practice grew from Gemsweb Digital into Tangison Studio, and what that journey taught us about building digital products in Namibia.

Tangison Studio was not always Tangison Studio. Before the current identity, before the expanded capabilities, before the formal partnership with Tangison Technologies, the practice operated under a different name: Gemsweb Digital.
The evolution from Gemsweb Digital to Tangison Studio was not a rebrand for aesthetics. It was a response to what the work had become. The clients had grown. The scope had expanded. The practice needed an identity that could carry the weight of what it was actually doing.
The Gemsweb Digital era
Gemsweb Digital started as a small web design practice in Windhoek. The focus was narrow: build websites for Namibian businesses that needed a digital presence. The work was good. The clients were happy. But the scope was limited.
What Gemsweb Digital discovered, working with clients across tourism, skincare, logistics, and financial services, was that the need was never just for a website. Clients needed brand systems. They needed digital products that worked as tools, not just brochures. They needed someone who could think about the entire digital surface of their organization, not just the homepage.
Why the name changed
Gemsweb Digital described what the practice did: digital work. But it did not describe what the practice had become. The work had expanded beyond websites into brand identity, product design, company profiles, policy documentation, and applied intelligence through Tangison Labs.
The name Tangison Studio connects the practice to Tangison Technologies, the parent company that provides the broader engineering and infrastructure context. This relationship lets the studio stay small and focused while drawing on deeper technical capacity when a project requires it.
What stayed the same
The principles that guided Gemsweb Digital still guide Tangison Studio. Clarity before decoration. Systems over one-offs. Local context, wider ambition. The founder, Tangi Iigonda, still leads the work directly. The commitment to Namibian craft and African market understanding has not changed.
What changed is the capacity. The studio can now handle integrated engagements that span brand, product, and intelligence. It can serve clients who need more than a website. It can build the systems behind the interface.
What this means for clients
For existing Gemsweb Digital clients, the transition was straightforward. The same team, the same principles, the same direct collaboration. The difference is that the studio can now take on work that would have been beyond Gemsweb Digital's scope.
For new clients, the evolution means they get a practice with a proven track record in the Namibian market, now equipped with the capabilities of a larger organization. One studio instead of three vendors. Brand, product, and intelligence under one roof.
Looking forward
The evolution from Gemsweb Digital to Tangison Studio is complete, but the journey is not finished. The studio continues to grow its capabilities, take on more complex engagements, and build digital products that matter for organizations across Africa.
The name changed. The principles did not. We are still the studio that started in Windhoek, building websites for Namibian businesses. We just build more than websites now.
