A New Name for the Studio? Why times_studio Might Be Next
We are exploring a rename of the studio to times_studio. Nothing is decided yet. Here is what is behind the idea, what would change, and what would not.
By Tangi Iigonda, The Tangison Studio

The studio has changed its name before, and it may do it again. We are exploring a rename to times_studio, and we are saying so publicly while the idea is still an exploration, not an announcement. Nothing has been filed, no domain has moved, and the work has not changed. But the question is open, and this note is the honest middle of that process rather than the press release at the end of it.
The names the studio has already carried
This practice has never been attached to its own name the way some studios are. It started as Gemsweb Digital. In 2025 it became Tangison Studio, a structural decision rather than a rebrand: the new name clarified what the practice does (digital product work), who it serves (ambitious organizations across Africa), and how it relates to the broader Tangison group. The work itself did not change then, and it would not change now.
That history matters for how you should read this note. A name change at this studio has always followed a change in what the practice actually is, never the other way around. We do not rename to chase a feeling. We rename when the current name explains the practice worse than a new one would.
What is behind times_studio
The name we are exploring is times_studio. Two ideas sit inside it. The first is time itself: the practice's work is about timing, the moment an organization decides to be seen properly, and the long horizon a brand has to survive once it is launched. The second is the underscore, the quiet connector that turns a word into a handle, the way the studio turns a position into a system: brand, product, and intelligence joined with one character instead of three handoffs.
There is a practical layer too. The studio's work increasingly lives in products with their own names (Hola Credit is the current one, live and public), and the studio's name sits beside client names in credits, case studies and joint launches. A name that reads cleanly in code, in a URL, in a repository, and in a footer line is doing real work in 2026, and times_studio does all four without explanation.
What would change, and what would not
If the rename happens, the name changes: the site, the email addresses, the documents, the social handles, and the marks. The legal entity stays the same. The people stay the same. The client work stays the same, and every case study on this site stays exactly where it is, under redirects that will keep working long after any rename. The parent relationship with Tangison Technologies CC stays exactly as it is; a studio rename does not touch the group structure.
What also does not change is the standard the work is held to. The studio's positioning has been one sentence since the beginning: one studio instead of three vendors. No name we have used, and no name we are considering, changes that sentence. If a future name made that sentence harder to say, we would not adopt it.
The honest part
We are telling you now, before anything is decided, because the clients and readers of this site are the people a rename is for. If you have an opinion about the studio's name, for or against, tell us. The reply paths on the contact page reach the same people who would make the decision.
If and when the name changes, it will be announced plainly, the old addresses will keep working, and this note will still be here, describing the moment before it happened.
